TLC — Touch. Look. Check.

Small changes can matter. Getting to know what is normal for your breasts can make it easier to notice when something changes.

TLC today for a healthier tomorrow.

BloomShield TLC breast awareness campaign: Touch, Look, Check.

Know what is normal for you

TTouch

Get to know how your breasts normally feel.

LLook

Notice any changes in size, shape, skin or nipple appearance.

CCheck

If something feels or looks different, speak to your GP.

Most breast changes are not cancer, but persistent or unusual changes should be checked by a healthcare professional.

If you notice a new or unusual change, contact your GP.

What changes should prompt advice?

Changes can include the following. This list is not exhaustive.

  • A new lump or swelling in the breast, chest or armpit
  • A change in breast size or shape
  • Skin changes such as dimpling, puckering or persistent redness
  • A nipple that becomes inverted or changes position
  • Unusual nipple discharge
  • Persistent breast or nipple pain
  • Any other change that is new or unusual for you

If you notice a new or unusual change, contact your GP.

Breast awareness and NHS screening

TLC is about breast awareness and recognising change. NHS breast screening is a separate population screening programme.

Breast awareness does not replace NHS breast screening. If you are invited for NHS breast screening, attend according to the guidance in your invitation.

Eligible people should follow NHS screening invitations and guidance.

TLC supports breast awareness and help-seeking. It does not replace NHS breast screening or advice from a healthcare professional.
